Terms of Service

1. The short version

TasteTree lets you build lists of the music you love and arrange them on a public profile — your tastetree — that you can share with one link. Use it for that, be decent to other people, and don't post things you have no right to post. Everything below is the longer version of that sentence.

TasteTree is operated by Cristobal Grana and Shang Wang (“TasteTree”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account or using TasteTree, you agree to these terms.

2. Your account

You need an account to create lists or claim a username. You can sign in with Google or Apple, or with your email address: we email you a one-time code, and entering it proves the address is yours. You are responsible for what happens under your account, so keep access to your email and your Google or Apple account to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has signed in as you.

Usernames are first come, first served, with some names reserved for the app itself. We may reclaim a username that impersonates someone, is used to mislead, or sits unused on an account that has never created a list.

You can change your username once every 30 days. When you do, your old username is released and anyone can claim it, so links that use the old name may end up pointing to someone else's profile.

You must be at least 13 years old to use TasteTree.

3. What you post

You keep ownership of everything you add to TasteTree — your lists, their titles and descriptions, your profile text and images. By posting it, you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display and share that content so the product can do its job: rendering your public profile, generating share cards, and surfacing your lists in browse and search.

That licence ends when you delete the content, apart from copies that have already been shared elsewhere or that sit in routine backups for a short while afterwards.

4. Things not to do

  • Post content that infringes someone else's copyright or trade marks.
  • Use an image as your avatar unless you own it or have permission to use it, such as another person's photo, artwork or a copyrighted logo.
  • Use profane, obscene or defamatory language in your username, display name, bio or lists, including false statements of fact that damage someone's reputation.
  • Harass, impersonate or target other people, or post content that is unlawful, hateful or sexually explicit.
  • Scrape, crawl or hammer the site or its APIs, or work around rate limits, access controls or authentication.
  • Upload malware, or use TasteTree to distribute spam or unauthorised advertising.
  • Redistribute music files. TasteTree links to and embeds music hosted by third parties — it is not a place to host audio.

5. Reporting content

If something on TasteTree breaks these terms or infringes your rights, email hello@tastetree.io with a link to the profile or list and a short description of the problem. For copyright complaints, also tell us which work you believe is infringed and how to reach you. We may remove content or suspend accounts in response, and we may tell the person who posted it that it was reported.

6. Public profiles and sharing

Your tastetree, your lists and your display name are public by design: anyone with the link can see them, they can appear in browse and search on TasteTree, and search engines may index them. This includes lists you haven't added to your tastetree. If you don't want something to be public, don't post it.

7. Apple Music

TasteTree uses Apple Music to find music and play previews. Apple Music has its own terms, and what it makes available can change without notice. When a track goes missing from the catalogue or a preview isn't available, that's a limit of the upstream service rather than something TasteTree can guarantee.

Artist and album artwork, names and links belong to their respective owners and are shown for identification. Music previews, artwork and catalogue data are provided courtesy of Apple Music.

8. Paid plans

TasteTree is free to use today. We may introduce paid features in the future. If we do, the price, billing period, renewal, cancellation and refund terms will be shown before you buy, and additional terms will apply to the purchase. We may change what's included in the free plan, and we'll flag those changes in the app before they take effect.

9. Our stuff

The TasteTree name, logo, design and software are ours. These terms don't give you a licence to use the brand, and you may not copy or reverse-engineer the service beyond what the law allows.

10. Ending things

You can delete your account at any time from your account settings. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaks these terms, or where we're required to by law. Where it's reasonable to do so, we'll tell you why.

11. No warranty, and limits on liability

TasteTree is provided “as is”. We don't promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we don't warrant that any particular track, preview or third-party integration will keep working. To the maximum extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost content, revenue or goodwill.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Florida, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it in your local courts.

13. Changes and contact

We may update these terms as the product changes. If a change is material we'll flag it in the app before it takes effect, and the date at the top of this page always reflects the current version. Questions go to hello@tastetree.io.
